About B-Lab

BELONGING IS NOT A PROGRAM. IT IS AN EXPERIENCE.

B-Lab is a boutique culture and leadership partner that helps organizations move beyond check-the-box activity and build environments where people can belong, contribute, grow, and thrive.

Who we are

Working at the intersection of culture, leadership, workforce, and community.

B-Lab: The Belonging Laboratory works at the intersection of culture, leadership, workforce, and community. We help organizations better understand what people are experiencing, identify the conditions that strengthen or weaken belonging, and develop practical strategies that support trust, engagement, retention, accountability, and organizational effectiveness.

Our work is intentionally customized. We do not assume every organization needs the same training, the same language, or the same solution. We begin with curiosity, listen to the people closest to the culture, and help leaders connect what they learn to what they do next.

Our mission

To help organizations create cultures of belonging where people feel respected, valued, heard, supported, and empowered to contribute — and where leaders have the awareness, tools, and accountability to sustain that experience.

Why a Belonging Laboratory?

Culture deserves the same curiosity as science.

A laboratory is a place to observe, ask better questions, test assumptions, learn from evidence, and adjust. We believe culture deserves that same level of curiosity and care. B-Lab creates structured spaces where organizations can look honestly at what is working, what is getting in the way, and what people need in order to thrive. We combine human experience with disciplined analysis — then help turn that learning into practical action.

What we believe

The beliefs behind the work.

Culture is experienced.

Policies and values matter, but culture is ultimately shaped through everyday interactions, decisions, access, communication, and trust.

People closest to the culture hold essential insight.

The workforce is not simply an audience for culture change. Their lived experiences are a critical source of information.

Training is not always the first answer.

When organizations skip listening and diagnosis, even strong training can address symptoms instead of root causes.

Belonging and accountability can coexist.

A people-centered approach does not avoid hard truths. It creates the conditions to face them with dignity, clarity, and responsibility.

Leadership growth and organizational learning are connected.

Individuals can grow, but sustainable culture change requires the systems and relationships around them to keep learning too.

Change is relational.

Trust is strengthened through consistent everyday choices — how people listen, respond, repair, advocate, communicate, and lead.

Who we work with

We partner with school districts, nonprofits, foundations, corporations, public agencies, healthcare and human-service organizations, and community coalitions — from Iowa to organizations and communities across the country.
